In this silhouette photo, you are able to tell what the figure is, but still have a picture of what the meaning is. With the black and white picture, it sets a neutral tone by not knowing if its a positive or negative image. With the photo only being from the waist up it allows you to just focus on the main part of the photo. This photo has emphasis by how the background is grey and the figure is black. There is also emphasis on the sun, by how the sun is the only white object in the image. The photo was also unexpected which made the picture better because of the stance which helps. There is also the element of space and contrast.
Frans Lanting uses rule of thirds by placing the image directly in the middle. The reason it works is because the photo is even and if the photo was cut in half it would be even. The main focus of the photo is the eyes of the puma. Frans Lanting photo's are usually animals or humans which are even in the photo or have a sense of rule of thirds. With the photo being so clear, you can see the details in the fur and the texture with the animal. Frans Lanting uses some of the elements such as texture, warm colors, etc.
